Over the years, Maplewood Community Music has collaborated with local municipalities, schools, business districts, and other nonprofits to bring live music to community events and reach audiences who might not otherwise attend MCM-hosted concerts. These performances help make the arts more accessible, foster community pride, and provide audiences of all ages the opportunity to experience the joy and connection that live music brings.
Some examples of past and present community events where we partner with local organizations include:
Hilton Neighborhood Association (Anniversary Celebration, Maplewood Porchfest)
Maplewood Township (Memorial Day Parade, Veterans Day Ceremony, Baseball Parade)
Maplewood Village Alliance (Art Walk and Music Fest, Dickens Village)
South Orange-Maplewood School District (elementary school music demonstrations, joint concerts with middle and high school performing arts groups)
South Orange/Maplewood Community Coalition on Race (Two Towns in Harmony)
South Orange Village Center Alliance (Downtown After Sundown)
Springfield Avenue Partnership (Health & HarvestFest, MayFest)
Whittemore - Community, Culture and Conservation, Oldwick NJ (Garden Concert Series)
Retirement community concerts
To inspire and engage the next generation of musicians, our ensembles take part in outreach programs that give young people the chance to experience live music, interact with musicians, and explore different musical styles and their cultural roots. These programs deepen appreciation for the performing arts, support school music participation, and show students how music can be a meaningful, lifelong way to connect with others and their community.
Some examples of past and present youth outreach events include:
Hosting children's concerts with audience participation
Post-concert music demos, games, and activities
Offering small ensemble performances and demonstrations at local elementary schools
Encouraging high school and college music students to join the Maplewood Concert Band, giving them the opportunity to expand their musical experience and contribute to their community
Hosting free jazz workshops for music students
And, of course... we LOVE a parade!
