Note-worthy News!

Tom McGee March 13, 2014 — We are sad to announce that Tom McGee, the musical director of the Maplewood Community Concert Band, will be stepping down at the end of our 2013 - 2014 season. Tom joined the organization in 2009 and for five seasons he brought the best out of our musicians and lended his expertise to the organization in so many ways. Tom's last concert will be our Outdoor Summer Concert on Sunday, July 20 at the Maplewood Memorial Park Amphitheatre.

Please join us in wishing Tom all the best in his future pursuits and we do hope he will come back and join us as a player from time to time.

More information about Tom McGee can be found in his biography.

May 13, 2014 — MCM officially announces its 7th instrumental ensemble, Swingville. A smaller sibling of Swing Town, our big band, Swingville is the name used by any jazz combo formed from Maplewood Community Music's pool of skilled volunteer jazz musicians and vocalists. Swingville can be found performing at various community events throughout the year such as at Maplewood's Art Walk & Music Fest and South Orange's Downtown After Sundown summer jazz series and more.

All advanced jazz players are welcome to join the Swingville pool of amateur musicians that support our communities through music enrichment and inspiration. Rehearsals take place at 4:30 p.m. on the 2nd Sunday of the month at the DeHart Community Center, 120 Burnett Ave, Maplewood. For more information, please contact Susan Dillon.

May 5, 2014 — The Silvertones, MCM's flute choir, performed for the students at South Mountain Elementary. For all six lunch periods, the choir entertained everyone with popular selections including "Hakuna Matata" from "The Lion King" and "Hedwig's Theme" from the "Harry Potter" movies. Calling All Musicians!
Join the Maplewood Community Concert Band!

We invite all woodwind, brass & percussion musicians, especially hobbyists, regardless of age or skill level, to join our community band. Though high school level playing experience is recommended, we welcome currently active musicians as well as those who have had a long absence from playing. There are no auditions and quite a few members joined after a 5, 10 and even 25 year break from playing.

We have room for ALL band instruments with a particular need for oboe, clarinets,
trumpets, horns, tuba and percussion (esp. timpani & mallets).
